Pet friendly holiday cottage, sleeps 2 - Bettws Newydd, Wales

A charming, single-storey cottage in a beautiful garden and close to the lovely River Usk, is the perfect romantic hideaway for two. A small, well-behaved dog is welcome too, and there's a field close by where your pet can run free. The spacious, oak-framed cottage has great character and charm, with exposed beams and leaded-light doors and windows.

Set in the owner's 15-acre garden, with mature trees, it has its own private patio among peaceful surroundings. The village pub in Bettws Newydd, less than a mile away, serves food and there are more shops, restaurants and pubs in Usk (5miles). This inviting retreat is thoughtfully furnished in relaxed country style.

Sit back on comfortable seating in the light and airy lounge, with a vaulted ceiling and two sets of patio doors opening onto a terrace. Underfloor heating keeps the flagstone floor pleasantly warm, together with a wood burner. A dining table sits neatly at one end, next to the kitchen, with all the culinary equipment you might need.

The pretty double bedroom and a streamlined wet room/shower room complete the layout. Outside is a spacious terrace with seating and a patio with garden furniture and a BBQ. Put your boots on and join the nearby long-distance River Usk Walk, bordered by beautiful hills and mountains along the way.

The pretty market town of Abergavenny (8 miles) is the gateway to the beautiful Brecon Beacons. Visit the museum and castle, high above the town, and take a leisurely boat trip on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal. See the great tower of Raglan Castle (5 miles) still standing in the mighty fortress that dominates the town.

Pretty Usk also has a ruined castle, together with a splendid rural life museum.
