Dog friendly holiday cottage, sleeps 4 - Painscastle, Powys

Property Summary

Set in the heart of Paincastle, this former chapel, originally built in 1828, has been sympathetically restored offering original features with a contemporary twist, simply perfect whatever occasion.

Treat yourselves to a delightful stay at this enticing converted chapel at Painscastle. Dating back to the 19th century, the beautifully converted, two-bedroom hideaway is a magical bolthole for a small family or two couples. It also welcomes four-legged friends.

Situated 14 miles from Builth Wells, it is 5.5 miles from the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye and from Bannau Brycheiniog, also known as the Brecon Beacons. Here there are many opportunities for walking and other outdoor activities. Make your way inside the charming building, slipping off your boots in the hall, to find the heart of the holiday haven is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner.

Fire up the wood burner after autumn and winter walks to throw out a toasty glow and settle down to chat, read or watch the Smart TV/DVD. Head over to the well-equipped kitchen area, with its breakfast bar, to rustle up something delicious for everyone to eat, then gather round the table, with its church-style chairs. There is also a WC downstairs.

At the end of each fabulous day together, head up to the first floor where the gorgeous bedrooms are situated. These include a twin, with an en-suite shower room, and a king-size, with a beamed and vaulted ceiling. The family bathroom is also here.

Carry your morning coffee outside on sunny days. Relax on the bench as you make plans for the next adventure. Venture into Hay-on-Wye to potter in the second-hand and independent shops and to enjoy afternoon tea.

See the castle and hire canoes on the River Wye. Strike out on long walks through the picturesque National Trust-owned area known as the Begwyns, about 1.5 miles from your base. Follow a section of the long-distance Offa’s Dyke Path, which runs through scenic countryside through much of the borderlands of Wales and England.
