One of the most appealing border towns in the local area is Coleford (4.5 miles), a Forest of Dean hot spot on the edge of the Wye Valley AONB. Visit nearby Puzzlewood, a 14-acre site of ancient woodlands, or Clearwell Caves (both 3 miles), a natural cave system where fascinating tours can be taken.

Those eager to admire the beauty above land can take follow a waymarked route from Coleford to Monmouth (9 miles), crossing the border and viewing beautiful spots along the River Wye.
