With local fish and chips, ice cream and seafood to sample, the way of life in this coastal village will have you switching off and slipping into holiday mode as soon as you arrive.

Divinely decorated in calming tones, Captain's Rest has two lounges that are welcoming cosy nests in which to unwind and relax. Warm up in front of the coal effect gas fire in the elegant first lounge, or lose yourself in a book in the more traditionally furnished second lounge, accessed via steep stairs. Dine alfresco in the south facing courtyard, or in the grand dining room which oozes character and style.

Gilded picture frames, beautiful light fittings and traditional wrought iron bedsteads are just some of the features that give this property its unique charm. As well as fabulous breakfast spots, cafes and pubs, Appledore is home to a maritime museum, several galleries and antique shops, perfect for browsing and delving into the local history. Instow can be seen across the estuary and is a 5-mile drive, or if the tide is in your favour, a short ferry ride across the water.
