With its neutral decor and large windows overlooking the sea, the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner forms the heart of this chic apartment. Styled with striking mosaic tiles and equipped with everything you need to prepare home-cooked treats, the kitchen is a delight to cook in. Then settle around the dining table to savour your creations over a bottle of wine.

Get cosy on the large corner sofa, thoughtfully arranged so you can watch TV or simply gaze out at the view. From here you can pick up the 14-mile heritage coast path stretching between Aberthaw and Porthcrawl, or venture north to the expansive golden sands and rock pools at Ogmore-by-Sea (1 mile). Observe wading birds where the river meets the sea, or see if you can catch your dinner at this popular angling spot.

Ten miles inland, the market town of Cowbridge boasts a selection of independent shops and eateries.
